Abstract

Peruspalvelukeskus Oiva invested on development of child welfare competences and work practices by offering a year and a half long continuation education for its whole child welfare personnel. The education offered time and space to explore one’s own and the other’s work from various perspectives. Multiprofessional exploration of the whole of child welfare services supported the search for the common work orientation. Rehabilitative child welfare was defined together both dialogically and reflectively and it was described in a unique way in each unit. A common factor for the rehabilitative child welfare was an everyday life orientation, which is built on the basic professional competences and requires a strong professional know-how. Encounters between knowledge based and theoretical understanding were both challenging

and enriching in the hectic work and contact teaching context. Experiences of the others and the latest research were respected. In common discussions one’s own work was clarified as a part of a wider whole. The participants became more conscious of the developmental needs during the educational process. There are also signs of the change in the everyday life work practices. According to the child welfare personnel it is important to have time to explore common work visions and their development also in the future.
