Children producing a lot of humor in a kindergarten group
Keywords:
humor, pedagogy, early childhood education, sense of communityAbstract
Humor has many positive effects on both the individual and the community. Belonging to a community is a basic human need, and humor can either unite or separate members from it. This study illustrates the humor of those children who use a lot of humor. The aim of the study is to illustrate these children in different situations and investigate how humorous situations develop with other children and adults in early childhood education. This study represents ethnographic research. The study’s data consists of 30 video recordings, which come from five kindergarten groups and nine children. The study results show differences in the humor children produce; at best, the children who produce a lot of humor create a positive atmosphere in the group, model different ways of using humor, and support other children in their attempts to produce humor. There is room for humor when the adults pedagogically recognize humorous situations, understand the reciprocal nature of humor, and give a chance to humor the children produce.
