Abstract

Social pedagogy is a discipline and praxis characterized by pursuing full humanness in social reality. A task of social pedagogy has traditionally been to build a relationship between the individual and society. Nowadays, social challenges are increasingly intertwined with ecological problems. The object of interest in this review text is the planetary interpretation of social pedagogy. According to the theory of Planetary Social Pedagogy (PSP), people, communities, and societies are subsystems of the biosphere. PSP is based on a socio-ecological worldview that integrates the fragmented human conception and experience of reality by uniting the spatial, temporal, and ethical dimensions of human life through a transformative
learning process. PSP provides a generic pedagogical framework that can be applied to various learning processes in the formal, non-formal and informal contexts. In this review text, we apply PSP to the context of work and vocational competence. According to our interpretation, transformative work and vocational competence are based on systemic understanding, building a sustainable future, and promoting planetary well-being.
